Timed with the completion of home sites on his 18-hole, USGA spec-built golf course, he formed Lane Tree Development Co., Inc., a residential contracting company. Mr. Lane teamed up with Mike Kelly, a contractor with 25 years experience in constructing and refurbishing quality, custom built homes.

He has been an owner/manager of a John Deere Dealership, Quality Farms, Inc., since 1967, develops commercial property through 70 Commercial Park, LLC and owns one of the largest wildlife habitats in Eastern North Carolina, Mill Creek Farms, a 2000+ acre tract bordering the Neuse River in Johnston County.
